Miguel Speaks On Writing Beyoncé's 'Rocket': 'Nothing Was Off-Limits'

Unless you’re asexual (or Keri Hilson), it’s impossible to hear Beyoncé’s “Rocket” and not feel an intense urge to invite your guy/gal/cutty buddy over to do the no-pants dance. And according to the song’s author, the song was written with that in mind.

Miguel, who penned Bey’s 2013 update to D’Angelo’s rhetorical classic “Untitled (How Does It Feel),” says he was challenged by Mrs. Carter to push the envelope with some of her most risqué lyrics yet.

“I'll never forget the conversation I had with Beyoncé and her insisting that nothing was off-limits,” Miguel tells VIBE. “And me being like, 'Oh yeah, you sure? Because I can really take it there.'”

And take it there he did. Once Miguel got the OK from Yonce, he came up with the song’s definitive opening line: “Let me sit this ass... on you.”

“What's the first thing I'd want Beyoncé to say to me, as a man? What have I not heard her say?” Miguel recalls thinking. “That's where the song came from. And essentially it's what all of us would want Beyoncé to say to us—no disrespect, obviously, to Jay.”

Miguel just might be on to something (see the lustful slow-mo video for “Rocket”). But his record isn’t the only track on Beyoncé that shows off her sensual side. She sings about cunnilingus on “Blow” and returns the favor in the backseat of a car on “Partition.” “Drunk In Love,” her duet with hubby Jay Z, even popularizes a sex position (Serfbort!).

"She's confident and [“Rocket”] showcases that part of her that we haven't seen—her confidence and her sexuality—which can be liberating to a certain degree," says Miguel, who is hard at work on his Kaleidoscope Dream follow-up. "I hope that's why she loves the record—that's why I love the record.”

He adds: “She's a beautiful woman and that's why even women love her... She just rocked everyone's world.” —John Kennedy

Lil Nas X To Release First Project '7' In June

Lil Nas X recently released the music video for his single, "Old Town Road," and now the 20-year-old is ready to keep funneling out content for his fans. The Georgia rapper announced on Saturday (May 18) that his first EP, 7, will arrive in June. Lil Nas X didn't share much about what his "stans" and other listeners could expect from his upcoming project, but assumptions can be made from his Instagram posts featuring fellow artists.

He's flicked it up with the likes of Kelly Rowland, Usher, YBN Cordae, and Tory Lanez but it'll take for June to arrive to know if any of those artists will make appearances on his EP.

Despite the fact that his journey has been met with a few minor bumps in the road—the small hiccup with Dave East comes to mind— Lil Nas X has prevailed and there's no reason why 7 shouldn't see the same amount of success as "Old Town Road."

He's been applauded and celebrated by some of the hottest out right now. Being brought out on stage by Cardi B isn't a small feat, having Billy Ray Cyrus hop on his hit single is the icing on the cake, and what rounds this all out is the presence of A-listers like comedy legend, Chris Rock's cameo in his first music video. Lil Nas X is beating the game right now and can't nobody tell him nothin'.

Whitney Houston Hologram In Development Plus New Music

Seven years after Whitney Houston's death, the world-renowned singer's estate plans to keep her voice and legacy thriving. According to The New York Times, the "I Will Always Love You" singer's estate plan to work on a hologram and release new music.

Former manager and sister-in-law Pat Houston shared the details with the news site, stating the hologram sits at the top of the list of a forthcoming rollout of Houston's music. In addition to a touring hologram, talks of a Broadway production remains on the table. The revamping of Houston's business output arrives via Primary Wave Music Publishing, a marketing company that Houston's estate signed a contract with. The organization is entitled to 50 percent of Houston's assets like music and merchandise.

For Pat Houston, she hopes this new venture will remind the public of the highly-decorated artist's significance. "Before she passed, there was so much negativity around the name; it wasn't about the music anymore," Houston said. "People had forgotten how great she was. They let all the personal things about her life outweigh why they fell in love with her in the first place."

To reach this point of producing new avenues for Houston's memory to continue on, Pat Houston said "timing" was key. "It's been quite emotional for the past seven years," Houston said. "But now it's about being strategic." Details are still forthcoming.

Arrest Warrant Issued On Mother Of Nipsey Hussle's Daughter Amid Custody Case

An arrest warrant has reportedly been issued for Tanisha Foster, the mother of Nipsey Hussle's daughter, TMZ reports. The warrant was filed after Foster failed to appear in court for a DUI case.

Tanisha Foster was reportedly busted for DUI in Los Angeles a few years ago. She pled no contest to one of the charges and was sentenced to three years probation. Foster skipped out on her court date on May 15, however, which resulted in her probation being revoked and a bench warrant for her arrest being issued.

The arrest warrant was issued in the middle of Foster's battle for custody of her and Nipsey Hussle's daughter, 10-year-old Emani. Nip's sister, Samantha Smith reportedly filed for guardianship of her niece following the rapper's untimely death. Smith and the rest of Nip's family claim Foster is not a stable parent.

Both parties appeared in court last Tuesday (May 14). Foster reportedly broke down in tears after seeing her daughter for the first time in months. A judge reportedly cleared the courtroom and gave the mom and daughter 20 minutes together. A judge has yet to rule on the custody of Emani.
