SNL Finally Adds Black Female Cast Member After 6 Years

Saturday Night Live took heed to their lack of color and added Youtube sensation Sasheer Zamata. She is the first African American comedienne to join the show’s cast since Maya Rudolph left six years ago.

Originally the sketch comedy show caused an outrage throughout the entertainment world and their fans after they revealed their newest cast that didn’t include a Black woman. Despite being 1 of 3 minority comedians on SNL, Kenan Thompson agreed with the decision to not include women of color for another year. Yet the show’s producers decided to hold another set of auditions in Los Angeles and New York to diversify their female cast.

“We’ve seen about 25 people,” Executive Producer told the NY Times. “A lot of the people we saw are really good. Hopefully, we’ll come out of the process well.”

Out joking 24 other hopefuls, Sasheer will make her debut on January 18th with Drake and the host and musical guest.
