Jack Eye Jones

DJ Spotlight: Jack Eye Jones

Ready to bust out of Scotland is DJ and producer, Jack Eye Jones. With a new remix from Dutch demi-lord Tiësto for the anthemic “Playground,” we sat down the Scot for a head-to-head about breaking into EDM, superhero powers and inebriated Tweeting.

Meet Jack Eye Jones after the preview below, and stay tuned for the full remix premiere on VIBE, coming soon.

VIBE: How does the dance music scene in Scotland compare to the States?
Jack Eye Jones: We're very lucky and sometimes take for granted the music industry in Scotland, people party like its their last day on earth, I didn't start off playing in Scotland so when I progressed to playing in Scotland I don't care what anyone says, it intimidates you, but eventually you grasp the beauty of the craziness of people flying around on top of each other, fire extinguishers going off and being hit by bottles and beer cans as you play (in Scotland that’s a compliment)—just their way of releasing the steam of the week they have had, they party like it's their last day on earth, they don't care how they are getting home, even if they happen to lose a bit of clothing and it's the middle of winter, as they are having the time of their life and it's your job to deliver that.

Describe your sound at this very moment?
Harder end of progressive electro house with reminders of the ‘80s and ‘90s.

What DJ-producer is your biggest inspiration and why?
Just one, wow, that's hard if I can go for two and I'll say not just because they play my tracks or mashups, but Tiësto and Avicii, starting with Tiësto because he's been with us for ever, he has grown in to different genres as the audience changed, he didn't let the world slip by like a lot of DJs who won't move with the times, and other is Avicii for taking a chance introducing a newer sound to EDM. He got a lot of stick for it, but it paid off and that takes balls.

Tell us about this new remix you have coming out with Tiësto.
Tijs has been playing my mashups on his ClubLife Podcast over last year, and I took a chance in and I have this track Playground, its quite an interesting one, I made 2 versions of it kind of took a strange turn while making it, and turns out I have such a lovely chilled out version of it and a stage version, and I love the chilled out version more as it has a great piano melody in it, I asked Tijs if he could make it in to something special, that big room Tiesto sound, and somehow he said yes. Haven't decides yet did this actually happen or am I still dreaming.

Who are you listening to right now on your iPod? Any hip-hop?
Eric Prydz every couple of days, his podcasts are simply amazing and for a bit of house, Boy George, strange one, but he's funny and the music choice is so funky. As far as hip-hop goes, I like Dre, Snoop and Eminem.

What's your live set like?
BONKERS! Watch my video on iTunes Ibiza Sessions TV and you get to see Scotland and just how crazy it is. I'm not a VIP DJ who just stands there playing track after track, I get involved with the crowd, if it's not happening, I make it happen, it's a party every time!

If you could have a superhero power what would it be and why?
Aside from the impossible: Tiësto's music based creative ability, I'd settle for being able to be in two places at the same time, so when I'm in my element on stage and battering it out, I can also be in the crowd down the front having the time of my life like everyone else, at the end of the day I'm a raver.

What's your favorite American festival and why?
I think all EDC events are incredible, the talent and production they put together is on another level. Those guys [Insomniac Events] are defiantly at the top of their game!

Best advice you ever got? From who?
I've had a lot of advice, I've learned to listen to people where I didn't before and just had just done my thing, Jon Mancini one of only three resident DJ for Colours for 24 years. Jon changed my thinking and dealing with situations and being prepared and giving respect to the gig coming up, mostly he has been there for me on this journey and dealing with the biggest challenge being myself, he's like my mentor and shrink. His best advice - "Jack, don't go on Twitter when your drunk again!"

Donnie McClurkin Sent To Hospital Following Car Accident

Gospel legend Donnie McClurkin couldn't be more grateful after surviving a car accident this past Wednesday (Dec. 12).

The "We Fall Down" singer was driving on the road in the earlier part of the day when he passed out and began weaving into traffic. He reportedly struck the middle concrete island.

Following the incident, he posted a selfie of him on the hospital bed in scrubs on Facebook. Along with the photo, he explained that he woke up from the accident with stitches on his left thumb, on top of having a sprained wrist, and hurt knee. His car was also completely totaled.

"I AM ALIVE!!!! Somewhat mangled, stitches on left thumb, sprained wrist, hurt knee, but I’m still here! God and two angels saved my life!," the Grammy-winning artist wrote.

He also mentioned that two "angels" pulled him out the car to safety and medical attention. "I owe them...I am still here by the grace of God! Thank you, Lord...thank you!" he added.

On Friday (Dec. 14), McClurkin posted to his Facebook page again, sharing several photos of his destroyed car. "This is the totaled car that two angels rescued me from ....after passing out while driving I don’t remember most of what happened a day and a half ago...but God," he wrote. "I overrode doctors and sisters advice and flew to KENYA today for ministry Saturday @ TWO RIVERS. and home on this Sunday to celebrate life."

Nicki Minaj's Boyfriend Kenneth Petty Received 18 Violations During Prison Stint

Nicki Minaj's new boyfriend, Kenneth Petty has a very troubled past.

On Friday (Dec. 14), TMZ revealed court documents disclosing Petty's history of disciplinary actions while he was an inmate in New York for manslaughter from 2006 to 2013.

When he entered the correctional facility, he was reportedly written up for creating a disturbance. Later during his stint, he was hit with a slew of disciplinary actions following a series of violent actions that included fighting, making terroristic threats, and "disobeying a direct order."

In 2009, prison faculty placed him in solitary confinement for four months as part of being reprimanded for nine different violations. Petty lost privileges that included the usage of the inmate telephone service, recreational activity, and the prison canteen.

In addition to his prison violations, Petty is a convicted sex offender. At the age of 16, he was tried as an adult served a four-year sentence for attempted rape of a minor.

Petty, who hails from the same borough as Nicki, Queens, knew the platinum-selling rap star since she was a teenager. They dated for a short period years prior to reuniting.

Minaj posted various photos of her and Petty going on a vacation getaway earlier this month. Sources close to Minaj told the celebrity gossip website that the 36-year-old hip-hop artist is  "happier than she's been in years" with Petty.

Sandy Hook Elementary Evacuates After Bomb Threat On 6th Anniversary Of Mass Shooting

Sandy Hook Elementary School was reportedly forced to evacuate its students and administration on Friday (Dec. 14), after receiving a bomb threat, CNN reports. The incident occurred on the sixth anniversary of the school's tragic mass shooting.

Newtown, Connecticut Police Lt. Aaron Bahamonde stated that the threat didn't appear to be substantial, but they decided to  evacuate the facility as an extra precaution.

Bomb squads reportedly swept the school and surrounding area for explosive devices but did not discover anything on the property. They later concluded that there was no immediate threat. The school administration dismissed students and faculty for the rest of the day however, considering the previous incident.

As previously noted, Sandy Hook endured a horrific mass shooting on Dec. 14, 2012, in which 20-year-old Adam Lanza shot and killed 20 children between six and seven years old, as well as six adult, staff members.

Earlier this month, thousands of documents were released about Lanza that revealed his mental state and social status in the years leading up to the shooting.

The shooting is not believed to be in connection to the recent string of bomb scares around the nation that targeted major politicians including the former first families Barack and Michelle Obama and Bill and Hillary Clinton.
