The Sochi Report: Russia Wins The Most Medals At 2014 Winter Olympics

With home court advantage on their side, Russia took home the most medals at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi.

On the last day of competition, the Russians earned another four medals, two of them golds after winning the men's cross-country 50K mass start race and four-man bobsled competition. The Russian final medal count was 33 total. Of those 33, 9 were bronze, 11 silver and 13 were gold, an Olympic high for the nation governed under Putin.

The United States were next in the overall medal count with 28 total. Some contend that the U.S. Olympic team performed under par, with many favorites like downhill skier Bode Miller, speed skater Shani Davis, mogul skier Hannah Kearney and snowboarders Lindsey Jacobellis, Hannah Teter, Shaun White, Danny Davis and Gregory Bretz all failing to medal or get gold in the events they usually dominate. At the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics in Canada, Team USA brought home a whopping 37 medals, 9 of them gold, 15 silver and 13 bronze. In Sochi, they also managed to bring home 9 gold medals, but only 7 silver and 12 bronze.

Norway had the third most overall medals with 26, and were second when it came to gold medals with 11 thanks to strong finishes in several cross-country and biathlon events. Canada was fourth overall in the Sochi medal count with 25 total, but they were third when it came to bringing home the most gold. The Canadians pushed ahead of Team USA when it came to gold medals in the end thanks to the men's hockey team, who won against Sweden in a 3-0 shutout in the finals.

The Netherlands rounded out the top five with 24 medals total after dominating the speed skating competitions in Sochi. The Dutch tied for fifth with 8 gold medals with the usually more successful German Olympic team. Germany won the most medals at both the 2002 Salt Lake City and 2006 Turin Winter Olympic Games, and won 30 medals in Vancouver in 2010. They only brought home 19 total in Sochi.

The Winter Olympics head to PyeongChang, South Korea in 2018, where several athletes will get another chance at gold. The Summer Olympics head to Rio De Janeiro, Brazil in 2016.

Florida Teacher Arrested For Carrying Knives And Loaded Guns In Classrooms

A fourth-grade teacher at Starkey Elementary School was arrested Monday (May 20) after authorities found knives, a 9mn Glock with seven rounds of ammunition and other weapons.

According to reports, the 49-year-old had the weapons, including a six-inch fighting knife and a two-inch finger knife, in classrooms with students.

Reportedly, Starkey Elementary School principal saw Betty Soto behaving suspiciously as she carried the backpack with her wherever she went.

Law enforcement arrived on campus after being notified by the principal. They interviewed Soto and found the weapons. The teacher reportedly was let out on bond at 9 PM Monday night and when asked by reporters why she brought the weapons to school she attributed it to Gov. Ron DeSantis.

"Ask Desantis," she answered. "Ask your governor."

In early May, the Republican governor signed a bill that will allow teachers to carry guns inside a classroom. The measure was a reported response to the Parkland High School shooting.

Soto's Facebook page will be investigated as part of the overall investigation due to a post that was shared. "Are you surprised I'm a revolutionary? You should have seen it coming. Hate that I was on my way to the plantation, but I had to free some minds."

Erica Kennedy, a mother of two at Starkey Elementary, described Soto's behavior as "militant" and "suspicious."

"She seemed very abrupt, the way she was speaking. I almost felt like she was talking to these kids like she was their parent, you know, just really, a little overboard. So, it made me kind of, something kind of went up in the back of my hair like, hmmm," Kennedy explained.

Soto reportedly will not be returning to Starkey Elementary School.

"It took a long time and lots of hard work to advance the Christopher Wallace Way & Wu-Tang Clan District street co-naming, but ya know what, Hip Hop Don't Stop."

Biggie's upcoming ceremony will be open to the public and will start around 12 p.m. ET. His mother, Voletta Wallace, his children, and close friends will be present in his honor.
