The 10 Riskiest Movies Of 2014
Every year there are a few movies that fail so badly at the box office you have to wonder if anyone at the studio is paying attention to where they put their money. Recent bombs such as Legend of Hercules and Keanu Reeves’ samurai flick 47 Ronin (which rang up about $50 million in box office receipts when it reportedly needed at least 10 times that amount to come out of the red) can probably be found in the dictionary under the words “terrible financial decisions.” And yet, time after time, year after year, studios still green light these risky ventures.
Sure, every once in a while the studios hit pay dirt and will be able to reap the rewards of their gamble. Most people don’t remember the release delays that plagued Titanic and the expectation that it would be a… *cough* Titanic flop. Of course, upon being released, Titanic was showered with critical acclaim and became the highest grossing film of all time (until Avatar dethroned 12 years later), so there is an argument to be made for these risky ventures.
Take a look at the 10 riskiest movies of 2014. Will they bomb like Waterworld and Cleopatra or will they defy expectations and laugh all the way to the bank? Only time will tell.
