If you’re fans of the Alvin Ailey Dance Company, chances are you’ve already had the pleasure of witnessing many Ailey II dancers grace the stage.

The gifted second company was created in 1974 by Ailey himself to prepare dancers for a a serious dance career and offer opportunities for emerging choreographers. While some Ailey company members leap right past the prefatory enterprise, 70% of the world renowned ensemble is made up of from Ailey II members.

To commemorate 40 years of exceptional artistry and storytelling, the second troupe returns for a two-week performance run—from April 2-13—at the Ailey Citigroup Theatre. Led by Artistic Director Troy Powell, opening night will consist of all new bodies of work, but will also continue to feature fan favorites throughout their 14-performance run.
