Lorde Turns Down Tour with Katy Perry

As a new artist, it’s important to earn your keep in this dog-eat-dog industry. For  New Zealand singer Lorde, that means turningdown the opportunity to open Katy Perry’s world tour.

“In the really early stages of an artist’s career, it’s important for them to establish themselves for themselves. I’m just basically really stubborn and I want to be really independent,” the 17 year old recently told an Australian radio station. “So I want to be headlining my own shows instead of supporting someone else. Which I think is fair enough.”

With a sold out U.S. tour already on her hands, we think Lorde knows what she’s doing.
