Samsung Introduces ‘Milk’ Music Service

Samsung is the next huge electronics company to introduce a music service into the exploding world of streaming, and it’s called ‘Milk Music.’ There seems to be an abundance of music services popping up, but Milk is different—not only is it free, but it’s also ad-free, and you can download it on Google Play right now. Milk is only available to Galaxy S 4, Galaxy S III, Galaxy Note 3, Galaxy Note II, Galaxy Mega and Galaxy S 4 mini users right now. Milk will be available for Galaxy S 5 users starting April 5th.

With an elegant, easy-to-use interface that you can customize tons of different ways, Milk provides an easy way to discover new music. “Milk introduces a fresh approach to music that reflects our innovation leadership and our focus on creating best-in-class consumer experiences,” said Gregory Lee, president and CEO of Samsung Telecommunications America and Samsung Electronics North America Headquarters. “We’re offering consumers amazing, rich music experiences built around what matters most to them and their lifestyle.”

Powered by Slacker, Milk will use a dial design that doesn’t necessitate a user to know a specific song name or artist to start listening to music. Just turn the dial and hit play.

There are 200 genre-based and curated radio stations backed up with a catalog of over 13 million songs. The ‘Spotlight’ feature will highlight handpicked music by tastemakers and influencers while ‘My Stations’ allows users to create custom stations based on their favorite songs and artists. Milk also allows six skips per station per hour.

Milk is aiming to be a service that tailors it’s music choices to each individual user. You can adjust the dial to show only genres that you’re interested in, and the ‘Fine-Tune Station’ allows you to change the preferences within a given station based on things like novelty, popularity, and song favorites to further optimize the recommendation process. In addition, Milk will be featuring exclusive content from both popular and emerging artists in the near future.
