Third Fatality Reported From SXSW Accident

A third fatality has been reported after the horrible car crash that took place at SXSW in Austin, Texas last week.

Police and hospitals confirmed that 26-year-old Sandy Thuy Le has passed away following the accident that killed two more and injured upwards of 20 people at the gigantic music festival on Saturday. Talking to the Austin American-Statesman, Le’s brother-in-law Stuart Gates said, “Anybody who had the privilege of knowing her would tell you she’s just full of life.”

Le was critically injured on March 12, when officials claim that 21-year-old Rashad Charjuan Owens, reportedly a struggling rapper, barreled through a crowd of festival goers as he attempted to evade police on his way to perform. Owens is now being held on capital murder charges at Travis County Jail, where his bond is set at $3 million. Additional charges may be forthcoming, and the Austin Police Department released a statement saying, “Texas State law requires two or more deaths in the same criminal transaction for the filing of a capital murder charge.”

Steven Craenmehr, 35, from The Netherlands, and Jamie West, 27, were pronounced dead at the scene. Along with DeAndre Tatum, Le had been listed as in critical condition. Six other injured people are still receiving treatment in the hospital. — Max Weinstein
