Vanessa Williams Discusses Colorism in Hollywood

First Lady Michelle Obama Delivers Remarks At "The Trip To Bountiful" Screening

Does color matter anymore? According to actress Vanessa Williams, it seems this issue will never be put to bed . She recently sat down with Chris Witherspoon from The Grio to promote the TV adaptation of A Trip to Bountiful and shed light on her experience as a black actress in Hollywood.

Anyone who doesn’t live under a rock is fully aware of Lupita Nyong’o’s Oscar win. However, when asked if she found getting roles easier because of her lighter skin, she simply replied, “being a Black actress in Hollywood is difficult no matter shade skin you possess.”

She continues, “It’s hard to get good roles anyway, no matter how fair your skin is…no matter how brown your skin is. It’s up to you to make the best out each opportunity that you’re given.”
