The Unemployment Rate for Black College Grads Are Double Their Non-Black Peers

Times have changed since the civil rights era in America, but this country has ways to go. We’re sure you’ve heard the saying “Blacks have to work twice as hard” from your parents growing up. Unfortunately, this still rings true today.

According to researchers, the unemployment rate for recent black college graduates between the ages of 22 and 27 is 12.4; more than double the 5.6 percent of unemployed college graduates as a whole.  In addition, 55.9 percent of black graduates are in jobs that don’t really require four-year degrees. Despite this setback, we’ve got to keep pushing.
