Vixen Education: Homeless DC Teen Gets Full Ride to George Town University

DC-native Rashema Melson proves that adversity only makes you stronger. The 18-year-old high school student recently received news that she’s been awarded a full scholarship to Georgetown University. What makes Rashema’s story so interesting is that she is also a resident one of DC’s largest homeless shelters.

For the past two years Rashema, her mother and her two siblings have been living in the shelter amongst hundreds of other homeless citizens. Despite her circumstances, the high school senior has managed to stay dedicated to her sports and education, which has landed her a 4.0 GPA and a promising future. Watch the interview with Rashema on the next page.
