Watch: Kevin Durant’s Emotional MVP Speech Will Make You Cry

Sports

Last night (May 6), Oklahoma City Thunder star Kevin Durant was named the Most Valuable Player of the 2013-2014 NBA season and gave a speech that was one for the play books.

The waterworks started early when KD singled out each of his OKC teammates, including Serge Ibaka and Russell Westbrook, for constantly believing in him through good games and bad. He also shouted out the coaches, support staff and team executives for their support.

The most humbling part of his 25-minute speech came when he paid tribute to his mother, Wanda Pratt, by recalling the times she egged him on from the sideline at his games and put food on the table for him and his brother when she went to sleep hungry.

“One of the best memories I had is when we moved into our first apartment,” he said. “No bed, no furniture, and we just all sat in the living room and hugged each other, ’cause that’s when we all thought we made it.”

As tears streamed down Pratt’s face, Durant named his mom the real MVP. Watch the full speech and grab a box of Kleenex below.
