Alfre Woodard Confirms Black Women Run Hollywood [Video]
Did you know that black women run Hollywood?
In a hilarious skit for Funny or Die, Alfre Woodard, Jurnee Smollett, Loretta Devine, Tracee Ellis Ross, Meagan Good, Nicole Byer, and Retta speak on their exclusive and comfortable level they sit at amongst your favorite A-listers.
The spoof opens up at a premiere for the fictional movie, My Sista's Wedding starring Smollett before a big crash erupts on the red carpet and the star of the film is whisked away by Good in a brown cloak. There she's taken into the "greatest secret of all of Hollywood amongst" featuring the aforementioned cameos.
In the just-under-five-minute short film, they address why there's a lack of major roles given to black women. "We traded credit for freedom and control," Loretta speaks up. They even throw Beyonce in the mix in a playful way the Beyhive will approve: "Beyonce and Oprah were both operatives once. But if an operative gets too visible, we have no choice but to deactivate them. Beyonce almost cost us our whole operations, 'Who Runs The World.'''
The hilarious banter and (somewhat) wise words from each star prove that even if black gals don't actually call the shots, they know how to make light of the color absence in film casting.
