Kevin Liles: D'Angelo To Release Album, Tour This Year
The world has been patiently waiting for the follow-up to D'Angelo's classic 2000 LP Voodoo but after almost a decade of false start, his manager, Kevin Liles, says it will drop this year.
"There'll be an album this year: there's 14 records so far, we might have a couple of bonus records," Liles told Billboard, "but all the recording is basically done and we're mixing and mastering now. Definitely, he'll be back."
The elusive singer made his grand comeback in 2011 when he began touring for the first time in 10 years. Since then, D'Angelo has released four songs, including "Ain't That Easy" and "Charade."
Last year, frequent collaborator ?uestlove told Billboardthat the album was "99 percent done."
When asked about the album's sound, Liles said the project fused soul with rock-like influences. "It's very melodic and there's an influence of all things he loves: there's James Brown, there's Prince, and everything people grew up loving D'Angelo for, from Brown Sugar to Voodoo.
Liles also says that D'Angelo will tour this October. Read the full report here.
