Starbucks Gives Bucks to Employees
Starbucks is displaying model citizenship with the company’s new plan to give back to its employees. To help battle the ever growing problem of student loans, Starbucks and Arizona State University will partner up to offer scholarships, both full and partial, for the purposes of pursuing a bachelor’s degree in an array of online programs. This College Achievement Plan is set to help as many as 135,000 Starbucks’ employees achieve a higher education.
The College Achievement Plan is available to employees based in the United States who do not have a bachelor’s degree and are working at the Starbucks support centers or other franchises which include Seattle’s Best Coffee, Teavana, Evolution Fresh and La Boulange. Applicants must work at least 20 hours a week and meet the academic standards for ASU.
One of the many great things about this plan is that once employees earn their degree there is no requirement to repay the money or stay with the company. President and CEO of Starbucks, Howard Schultz, states, “supporting our partners’ ambitions is the very best investment Starbucks can make. Everyone who works as hard as our partners do should have the opportunity to complete college, while balancing work, school and their personal lives”.
