While we are all dying to see a next sequel to The Best Man, Taye Diggs says it may take some time because studios treat “black” films differently.

After The Best Man Holiday made us all cry and laugh  there were talks of a sequel, but in a recent interview, the Associated Press reports that actor Taye Diggs says we may have to wait awhile. He said the likelihood of there being a third installment is based on the performance of other movies with a predominantly black cast at the box office.

“Unfortunately, the business is such that as far as studios are concerned, they judge one quote-unquote black movie on how other ‘black’ movies have done, even if they have nothing to do with each other,” said the 43-year-old actor.

The New Jersey-native went on to say the standard that studios set for these films is frustrating, however black actors have come a long way.

“But we’ve got a long way to go,” he said. “It’s too bad we can’t do well on our own merit when it comes to the studios. They don’t like to take risks and, unfortunately, we’re still considered a huge risk, even though I don’t think we are.”

Diggs is currently starring in the new drama Murder in the First that airs on TNT.
