Interview: Jason Markk Offers Dry Cleaning Service For Your Sneakers

Feverish fanatics of footwear connected at the H-Town Sneaker Summit this year in Houston. The Summit celebrated its 10th year by expanding to new markets and being acknowledged as the biggest sneaker event in the country by Fuse. We ran into Jason Markk, whose sneaker cleaning kits have been a mainstay amongst the culture for many years now.

VIBE: How many years have you been participating in the Sneaker Summit?
Jason Markk: Ah man, about 5 or 6 years now.

How’s the company doing now? You now have soft packaging, switching up from your custom shoe box hard design.
Everything’s great, man. We just opened a flagship store in Los Angeles. So that’s been great. We actually started offering this dry cleaning services for kicks. You drop off your kicks and in about 3 days pick them up, fresh and clean smelling good.

That’s brand new, right?
There’s obviously been like shoe shine services, the traditional but we’re really the first to really focus on the sneaker culture. We don’t clean anything but sneakers. So, we’ve had people wanting to bring boots or other things but just stay focused on sneakers.

How long has the Jason Markk, the company been around?
Since January 2007, so it’ll be 8 years this January.

Very Nice!
It doesn’t feel like it’s been that long, ha.

What’s your favorite/ “Unicorn” sneaker?
The OG Air Max 1, white, red and gray.

The ORIGINAL! Ha
Man, that silhouette, color way is just classic. I love it.

How do you feel about the new sneaker re-releases coming direct from the factories?
I mean with me it’s about quality, you know what I’m saying. I don’t know, man I like when they retro kicks, it’s dope to see that one model that brings you back. But I’m not really feeling the B grades, basically that cheap shit, ha! I don’t know how else to put it. We love kicks and will continue to buy ’em I think. It sucks but it is what it is.

The Sneaker Summit will expand to New York in September. Check out Jason Markk and their services at jasonmarkk.com.

A Florida Deputy Was Reassigned, Not Fired, After Video Shows Him Punching A Teen

A Florida deputy was reassigned, not fired after cellphone footage showed him throwing a teen to the ground and punching him in the head.

Broward County Sheriff's deputies were responding to a fight that occurred between a large group of students in the Tamarac shopping plaza. According to reports, after the group was told to leave, one male teen wearing a tank top was trespassing and arrested.

The violent interaction between the black minor and white officer was caught on cellphone footage and showed Deputy Christopher Krickovich pepper spraying the boy before he was shoved to the ground and punched in the head.

Krickovich said in his statement that he saw the teen in the tank pick up the cellphone of the teen arrested and take an "aggressive stance" toward another member of law enforcement. He claimed he feared the boy would grab one of his weapons from his belt or vest after he was pushed to the ground.

“At this point, his left arm was free and next to him, while he placed his arm under his face," Krickovich's report said. "I struck the male in the right side of his head with a closed fist as a distractionary technique to free his right hand."

Since the video went viral, Krickovich was placed on administrative assignment. Many after seeing the violent encounter took to social media demanding the officer be terminated.
