Mary J. Blige Stops By The Breakfast Club
The latest one to slide through the Breakfast Club was the Queen of Hip Hop Soul Mary J. Blige. After they world premiered her new single “Whole Damn Year,” she chopped it up about her new album, The London Sessions and touched on the influence of the English band Disclosure.
“Their music sounds like what we grew up on,” she said. “They know their hip hop homework too. It's new but its not new. But it's new for me because all I’ve done is hip hop.”
Mary also reflected on if she thought she would have made it this far 22 years ago when she released her debut album, What’s the 411? “Not at all. If you would’ve told me this was going to happen back then I would’ve been like you’re lying.”
The “Don’t Mind” singer also shared her thoughts on how she think Instagram and Facebook would have affected her career if it was around 20 years ago. “My career would probably be over,” she laughed. “I was a tyrant. I was terrible. They were banning me from places.”
