Not A Leak: Alicia Keys Takes Off Her Clothes ‘We Are Here Campaign’
Empowered by her We Are Here campaign, Alicia Keys decided to take another approach to spread awareness. The singer, expecting her second child in December decided to pose nude, painting a peace symbol on her pregnant belly in an attempt to raise social consciousness.
“I want to gather an army,” Keys told the New York Times. “It’s time to get people’s attention. People won’t be able to ignore this visual.”
Keys began the We Are Here campaign with her latest single and performance on the Today show after being asked, “Why are we here” during a discussion with friends. Keys wants to channel her music to social causes.
She’ll be donating $1 million of her own money to be divided amongst the 12 groups participating at the Social Good Summit, a scaled down version of the United Nations General Assembly. Keys is looking for her fans to support these groups in particular: CARE, All Out, Equal Justice Initiative, the Future Project, Girl Rising, Keep a Child Alive, Moms Rising, Oxfam, Partners In Health, the Trevor Project, the Trayvon Martin Foundation and War Child.
A website, WeAreHereMovement.com has been erected to provide information and Keys hopes her fans will make their donations to those respective charities.
