4 Other Jodeci Songs Drake Should Sample ASAP
You’re not tripped up by Drake sampling a Jodeci record are you? That play was more telegraphed than a Jay Cutler pass. Easy one to call.
These acts both adore women and wear their emotions like outerwear. While Jodeci (K-Ci, Jo Jo, Devante Swing and Dalvin) delivered romance in more gravely doses, Drake serves up his loving with a little douchebag swag (“Fuck that nigga that you love so bad/ I know you still think about the times we had,” he sings on “Marvin’s Room”.).
Jodeci had more couth than that. Still there is mostly commonality here. So much so that Drake shouldn’t stop at borrowing Jodeci’s “How About You” on his latest work “How About Now”. There are several other records begging for a Drake and 40 flip. Starting with…
“CRY FOR YOU”
This should be a cover. Aubrey wouldn’t need to change a syllable. Just sing along with K-Ci, one of very few male voices who can maintain his thug pedigree while belting “It’s been an hour since you’ve been gone/ And that’s too long, so come back home/ I can’t live without you/ So I cry for you.” Real-life tears.
