Raven-Symone Responds: ‘I Never Said I Wasn’t Black’

It seems like Raven-Symone is dragging herself deeper into a hole, and black Twitter is going to allow her to remain there.

During a recent interview with Oprah, she told her (and the world) that “she’s not an African-American, she’s an American.” The Twittersphere didn’t let her off the hook as endless memes and trending topics about her statement flooded timelines. Well, it seems she’s had enough. She sent a statement to theGrio:

“I never said I wasn’t black… I want to make that very clear. I said, I’m not African- American. I never expected my personal beliefs and comments to spark such emotion in people. I think it is only positive when we can openly discuss race and being labeled in America.”
