Jada Pinkett-Smith Doesn't Mind If People Don't 'Like' Willow & Jaden Smith
We may not understand Jaden and Willow Smith, but their mother doesn’t need us to. Stopping by Shade 45’s Sway In The Morning, Jada Pinkett-Smith defended her children’s outlandish antics and fashion choices. The actress expressed how proud she was of her children’s confidence levels.
“I think the most difficult part and I think the scariest part is when you see young people who have the confidence to just be who they are,” she said. “And that’s how they were raised; that’s what I expect of my children.”
Laughing off Jaden’s interesting ensemble at the Kimye wedding, Pinkett-Smith asserted that her children’s confidence are a result of the values she and Will Smith have instilled in them.
“I always say, ‘Worry about being respected, never worry about being liked. Because that’s the trap. That’s where people manipulate you. And so my kids, I did not teach my kids to be liked. I taught them to always live by their truth, and to always respect others and to always reach to be respected,” she told Sway. “And different people will respect different things, but at the end of the day, my kids have the confidence to be who they are. And that is all, as a parent, that Will and I can ask of them, because that is where their power and their strength will come from.”
Pinkett-Smith also discussed her relationship with Tupac, her role as Fish Mooney on FOX’s Gotham series, as well as the prospect of her continuing to make music. Watch her full interview on Sway In The Morning above.
