Vixen Vent: Jada Talks Tupac Again
Confession: I have a best friend that’s a guy. Back when my partner and I started dating in 2004, I made him aware of this information. They met one another and years later, they remain cool. He is the Godfather of my children and I am the Godmother of his daughter.
But it’s 2014 and according to the rules of social media, this cannot exist. Men and women cannot be friends, much less best friends. Women cannot call another man her BFF without there being red flags and warning signs going off that there’s more going on than what meets the eye. If there is a photo of us together and I hashtag my friend “#mybrother” the world will take ‘brother’ as friend with benefits. We know what it is. My partner knows what it is, but the rules of social media are powerful and that overrides everything we know to be true because Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter rules everything around us.
I read Jada Pinkett-Smith’s letter on Facebook last week, another penned piece on the death of her friends, Maxine and Tupac Shakur. If you Google the heartfelt status to find out what exactly was said, there is more emphasis on ‘Pac than on Maxine. She’s talking about him again. I said it myself. Shame on me, but the red flags went off… again.
