Listen: Gwen Stefani’s Tribal Pop Comeback Single ‘Baby Don’t Lie’

It’s been half a decade since Gwen Stefani had the globe spelling out “Bananas.” (Still my shit, btw.) Now, the No Doubt frontwoman has slid back into mainstream consciousness with a gig at The Voice and her own solo single “Baby Don’t Lie.” The comeback track is quintessential Gwen, fusing reggae with tribal pop, and recruits an elite cast of writers including Benny Blanco, One Republic’s Ryan Tedder, Noel Zancanella and Stefani herself. The Harajuku Girl even tucks in a mini-chant rap for the bridge, asking “Am I getting warm?” Tbh, it isn’t as hot as “Luxurious” or “Hollaback Girl” but this could be the warm-up. Last month, Gwen confirmed a new solo project was in the works, which will include longtime collaborator and fellow Voice coach Pharrell.

Preview “Baby Don’t Lie” here before its official release on Monday, Oct. 20.
