#LifetimeBiopics: Of Course Twitter Went In On The Aaliyah Biopic

Lifetime had to know that Black Twitter would be its harshest critic during the premiere of the Aaliyah biopic, Aaliyah: The Princess Of R&B. But if they weren’t aware, they learned the hard way last night (Nov. 15). A running criticism with the film – before it even hit the small screen – was the casting decisions made for the roles of pivotal characters: Timbaland (Izaack Smith), Missy Elliott (Chatrisse Dolabaille), R. Kelly (Cle Bennett) and Aaliyah (Alexandra Shipp) herself. And once the film began rolling, the mighty Internet let Lifetime have it.

Hilariously arising from the ashes were two trending topics: #LifetimeBiopics and #LifetimeBeLike, both of which were used to drag the network through the filthiest of mud. Employing sarcastic movie titles and side-splitting “stars,” Twitter users created their very own biopics in the image of Lifetime’s extreme fail.
