1. Social Media Subs
Have a conflict with someone? Discuss it with the person—not with your followers. Trash this in 2014 and learn to speak up and solve your problems face to face with the person.
2. Words Not Found In The Dictionary
“Bae,” “thot,” “fleek,” “lit,” “bruh” and any word that is not part of the English dictionary, should live only in 2014.
3. People Who Don’t Support Your Dreams
Why carry people who don’t support you or your dreams into another year? Why start off fresh with a burden to carry? Go after those dreams and leave the naysayers in 2014.
You actually were supposed to leave this in 2012 and you waited. You still partook in 2013, but now that 2014 is coming to a close, you must leave procrastination behind. Time is of the essence and it’s time to complete projects and achieve goals. Stop procrastinating.
5. Unnecessary Drama
Every argument that you are invited to, you don’t have to attend. Concern yourself with your life, dreams, goals and aspirations, only.
6. Group Chats
While you may feel like you’re killing two birds with one stone by including all your friends in a group chat, many of them don’t want to be a part of it. Especially when they don’t know one another. There are many downsides to group chats so let’s do a group text and say, no more of this in 2015.
7. Excessive Personal Life On Social Media
A photo of what your eating at a restaurant with friends, great. But everything that you and your friends are talking about, what problems you are having with your family, boyfriend drama, all of that should be left off of social media. Everyone doesn’t need to know everything. Let’s leave excessive personal information off your social platforms.
If there is anything at this point that you are not happy about in your life, change it. You have full control over your life. Don’t waste time complaining about what you don’t have or what level you’re not on. Leave all the complaining in 2014.
9. Lazy Friends
Friends are people who should be there for you. Maybe not every time you need them but definitely during the most important times. If you have “friends” that never support you, help you with anything and never want to spend time with you, it’s time to leave them in 2014. It’s perfectly okay to love people from a distance.
New year, new you, new love! Don’t bring the baggage of an ex into the new year. Holding onto an ex is closing you off to new relationships.
11. Bragging About What You Have
Everything you are blessed with is a gift that at any moment can be taken away. Be humble and grateful for all you have, but when you reach the point of bragging, it’s time to take a chill pill. Many are not as fortunate as you might be, take that into consideration the next time you’re bragging about that superficial item on the ‘gram. Leave the bragging in 2014.
12. Dating Apps
The problem today is that we are getting to know people through the images they portray in the cyber world and when we finally do meet them we have no idea how to interact with each other. Delete the apps and patiently wait for that guy.
This might be the most over used hashtag of the year. Your relationship goal should never be based off of what you think other relationships have or even worse a picture that someone is portraying. A relationship goal should be more than a visual image but yet learning how to love and be loved in return. Lets leave all the #RelationshipGoals hashtags in 2014.
14. Frozen’s “Let It Go”
Let It Go, Let It GOOOO, Let this song go. The lines of this song are so over used in everything from status updates to Instagram captions and friendly conversations. It’s time to bury this song and all the lyrics in 2014.
15. Group Selfies
We can all thank Ellen DeGeneres for her amazing idea but trying to fit 20 or more people into one group selfie is time consuming and can get pretty tricky. Selfies of yourself are good enough and if you must have a group shot, ask someone to take the photo for you. I’m sure someone would be happy to help. Let’s stash the group selfies in 2014.
16. Facebook Hashtags
Why does Facebook have hashtags anyway? Facebook hashtags serve no real purpose. If you do figure it out, let us know and then their might be a greater debate on why these should roll over into 2015. Hashtags should stay strictly to Instagram and Twitter.
17. Instagram Name vs. Number
In 2014 we went from exchanging numbers to Instagram names. Why stalk their many pictures before you talk to them again? Asking for his/her phone number is the cool thing again. Leave IG names solely in 2014.
Who came up with the merged croissant donut craze anyway? While both breakfast pastries are probably not the healthiest options to start your day, putting them together might be even worse. Let J Lo’s new Self magazine cover and Jada P Smith’s Shape-shaming help you avoid that cronut in 2015.
19. Instagram Challenges
The Ice Bucket challenge brought great awareness towards ALS but all other challenges on Instagram went down hill from there. The pretty face challenge, the no-makeup selfie challenge, Chris Brown’s Christmas challenge were all just too much. How about we challenge you to leave this in 2014!
20. Worrying About The Future
Can I tell you a secret? Nobody knows what the future holds. So why worry about something no one has any knowledge about. Be in the here and now. Prepare for your future, plan for your future but leave the worrying about your future in 2014.
