#CrimingWhileWhite Puts Glaring Spotlight On Racial Injustices In America
After just one day of deliberation, a Staten Island grand jury decided to not indict 29 year old Daniel Pantaleo in the chokehold death of 43 year old Eric Garner.
The news sent shockwaves through the African-American community who are still reeling from the no indictment decision given to officer Darren Wilson in the Ferguson shooting of 18 year old Mike Brown. While many took the streets of New York City to march and protest, a hashtag CrimingWhileWhite began to populate Twitter, and in essence pull back the curtains on racism and white privilege in this country.
Participants spoke honestly and openly about blatant crimes they got away with and while the discourse was welcomed, it showcased just how unjust America can be.
