Listen: D’Angelo’s Return Comes To Fruition With ‘Sugah Daddy’

Here is proof that D’Angelo’s return is actually happening.

On the heels of announcing his upcoming album Black Messiah, the soul singer drops off a new track entitled “Sugah Daddy.” Released through Red Bull’s 20 Before 15 series, D’Angelo and his band The Vanguard employ brass, keys and handclaps for a groove reminiscent of the singer’s classics. And while the track isn’t exactly brand-spanking-new (he debuted it on stage back in 2012), it is still a signifier that the crooner indeed has some music up his sleeves.

D’Angelo and The Vanguard’s Black Messiah will be spun at a listening session in New York City tonight (Dec. 14). It is his first release in since Voodoo in 2000. Press play on “Sugah Daddy” below.
