A List Of Every Unarmed Black Person In The U.S. Killed By Police From 1999-2014

The NAACP Legal Defense Fund set out to prove the killing of black men, women and children is an epidemic in this nation.

After a Staten Island grand jury failed to indict 29 year old officer Daniel Pantaleo for placing a band NYPD choke hold on 43-year-old Eric Garner that resulted in his death, the NAACP impressively researched every unarmed black person killed in the United States by police starting back in 1999 with the horrific killing of Amadou Diallo, a 23 year old immigrant from Guinea who was shot 41 times by four white police officers, all of whom were found not guilty, up until Dec.2, 2014 with the shooting death of 34-year-old father of four Rumain Brisbon in Phoenix, Arizona.

The NAACP Legal Defense Fund took to Twitter to list all 76 names, as well as the legal action–some pending–in certain cases. The well researched list is a gift and a curse that puts to rest the belief that police brutality is a myth, but plainly points out that black lives aren’t valued as much as our white counterparts by law enforcement.
