Barack And Michelle Obama's First Date To Be Made Into A Film
There is another biopic in the works, and no, Lifetime is not producing it.
President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama will become the subject of an upcoming romance film entitled Southside With You, according to Variety. Based on their first date in 1989 – where they saw Spike Lee’s classic Do The Right Thing – the upcoming movie will chronicle when the two first met at a Chicago law firm, Deadline reports.
The film will be directed by Richard Tanne, who also wrote the screenplay. Actress Tika Sumpter has been cast for the role of Michelle, and has also co-written the movie’s script with Tanne. She will also serve as co-executive producer. Tracey Bing and Stephanie Allain (Dear White People, Beyond The Lights) are also set to produce the film.
“Stephanie and I are excited to produce this smart and timeless film that sheds light on one of the great love stories of our time,” Bing said. “Richard really captures the essence of that romantic connection between Barack and Michelle that is so evident in the way that they look at each other. We are looking forward to finding the perfect Barack.”
No actor has been cast to play President Obama as yet.
