Tennessee Rapper Petty Answers Samuel L Jackson's Challenge With 'I Can't Breathe'
Samuel L. Jackson issued a call to action for anyone bold enough to speak out against police brutality. With an epidemic of no indictments ragging the country, officers Darren Wilson and Daniel Pantaleo received no punishment for the killing of Mike Brown and Eric Garner.
Unfortunately, the beloved actor's request didn't merit the attention it rightfully deserved. Singers Jessie J, Luke James and Dru Hill took on the challenge, which paled in comparison to the many celebrities who participated in this summer's ALS Ice Bucket Challenge.
Tennessee lyricist Petty not only answered Jackson's call to action but weaved together a video of powerful images that showcased the reality of America's social and racial climate with what some of us and our favorite celebrities chose to focus on.
"I feel like some people are turning their heads," the 26 year old East Nashville resident said. "A lot of people are turning their head because they either don't care or they can't stomach to watch the truth, which is the same thing. People went all out for the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge, people aren't going all out for issues like this, and they paid $100 for that! It doesn't cost anything to say anything!
