Protest For Eric Garner Reportedly Turns Violent In California
A protest turned violent over the weekend (Dec. 6) in Berkeley, CA as demonstrators clashed with police officers and began throwing objects. In a march that began peacefully and was set to start at the University of California, Berkeley and end at Oakland’s Civic Center, a group of protesters broke away and began breaking glass windows and looting stores. White demonstrators were reportedly entering businesses “coming in and shoving black people,” The Grio reports.
Two police officers sustained injuries during the standoff, according to Berkeley police spokeswoman Jenn Coats. One officer’s shoulder was dislocated after being struck with a sandbag, while other protesters reportedly threw wrenches, rocks, pipes and smoke grenades at officers. Police retaliated with tear gas.
