Angela Bassett's Revelation from Whitney Houston on Biopic Came Sitting In Traffic
Despite Nippy' family expressing opposition on Lifetime's upcoming biopic, Angela Bassett's revelation from Whitney Houston herself, was the confirmation she needed to move forward. Earlier this week, Bassett appeared on Live! with Kelly and Michael and shared her story on how she decided to make her directorial debut with the movie after a sign that came from sitting in traffic.
"Driving to work to the production office about 4-5 weeks before we started filming… we’re trying to get everything together with everyone who’s going to be filming with you. So I’m driving off the exit and her song immediately comes on. It comes on every day on the radio, but it comes on at the exit," she told the hosts.
Bassett put the pieces together on Whitney's blessing on the biopic after seeing the icon's initials on a passing bus. "I see this huge writing saying ‘WH’ and it’s in her favorite color, which is purple, which I read in her mother’s book. With her music playing, I see her initials, in her favorite color. I have trepidation, how will this play out in the end.”
In her moment of being emotional, she says, "I was laughing like, ‘Okay girl, I hear you, I feel you, thank you. I know it’s going to be okay and it’s going to work out.'"
Whitney will premiere this Saturday (Jan. 17) at 8 p.m. EST on Lifetime.
