Ava DuVernay and David Oyelowo to Make Katrina Film
Following the success of their successful film Selma, Ava DuVernay and David Oyelowo plan reunite in an effort to create a new drama centered around Hurricane Katrina.
It was announced on Monday that Participant Media would be bringing the dream team back together to create ‘the drama around one of the most important social and environmental stories of our time”
Many are excited to see what DuVernay can bring to the big screen when it comes to drafting the political and environmental narrative. EVP Narrative Film Jonathan King said teaming up with DuVernay was something the production company had been hoping to do, as “Ava DuVernay has shown herself to be highly skilled at bringing intimacy and contemporary urgency to epic events.
Although they were snubbed by the Oscar’s, Selma brought in a whooping $8.3 million to the box office their opening weekend, and has received much critical acclaim.
