The Cosby Saga Continues: Beverly Johnson’s Ex Sues CNN For $19 Million
The ex-boyfriend of Bill Cosby’s most high-profile accuser, Beverly Johnson, has slapped CNN with a $19 million lawsuit.
Mark Burk – who was in a live-in relationship with the supermodel for three years – became a brief focus on the controversy surrounding Johnson’s claim. After Cosby’s lawyer urged CNN to include Burk in a TV special on Johnson’s story, the network responded, referencing Burk’s “history of threatening and abusive behavior” towards his ex. Now, Burk is suing for defamation.
TMZ reports that Burk’s lawsuit reads, "CNN is not a tabloid periodical 'picking on the little guy.' CNN is a giant that has absolutely ruined the reputation of one man." In CNN’s response to Cosby’s lawyer, the network’s attorney also questioned Burk’s credibility based on his legal history with Johnson.
"In assessing Burk's credibility, it is also notable that he filed a legal action seeking 'palimony' from Ms. Johnson,” the letter read. “The lawsuit was dismissed because the court found him to be a vexatious litigant. As I'm sure you already know, a vexatious litigant is someone who the court determines repeatedly makes meritless or false claim.”
CNN has not released a response to Burk’s suit.
