Damon Dash Shares Cool Bits About His Kanye West BET Honors Presentation Speech
You probably have already heard the tea surrounding Damon Dash’s awkward presentation speech when he awarded Kanye West with his Visionary Award at this year’s BET Honors, which is set to air on Feb. 23 and was taped this past Sunday (Jan. 24). The hip-hop power mogul recently chopped it up with Hip Hop Motivation to discuss his relationship with Ye’ and his missing tooth.
The ex Roc-A-Fella executive went onto to say that he wasn’t nervous at all saying what he said, because it came from the heart. And also that interesting enough, Ye’ reached out to him actually to present the award. Dame also revealed that legendary hip-hop journalist dream hampton, wrote his presentation speech, but he declined to use it.
Dash is grateful, however, for presenting Yeezy with his trophy.
“I wasn’t expecting for me to be the person to give it to him because it’s rare I get the credit on any level for anyone’s success as of yet from another man,” he said. “It was the first time someone has given me a platform to take some kind of credit for giving them a platform…honestly Kanye always does give me a shout out…and he did just then and I thought that was brave of him…because of that any issues I had with him, I spoke about it as man, and he spoke back and that’s between us.“
And, oh yeah, and that missing tooth? It’s for a new movie role he’s taking on playing a poet. Take a look at the full interview above, and him talking about Funkmaster Flex and Jay Z’s on going feud.
