A$AP Rocky, Zoe Kravitz, Chanel Iman And More Move That 'Dope' At Sundance
With all the star quality that has been infused into Dope, there's no question why bidding for the film was through the roof this past weekend at the Sundance Film Festival.
Written and directed by Rick Famuyiwa, the film has gained a lot of buzz with the amalgamation of talent involved. Forest Whitaker, Zoë Kravitz, Chanel Iman, Quincy Jones, and A$AP Rocky have all joined forces for the "urban coming-of-age dramedy" that takes place in the slums of Inglewood, California. And according to The Hollywood Reporter, Dope had several companies wanting to distribute its – well, dopeness.
An all-night bidding war reportedly ensued at the festival. Bids were in from Fox Searchlight, A24, Lionsgate, and others, but the brawl ended with Open Road and Sony Pictures still standing, scoring a $7 million dollar deal and negotiating a $20 million dollar marketing commitment. The film garnered one of the biggest deals at Sundance so far.
Dope premiered this past Saturday (Jan. 25). Be sure to expect the greatness to come to a theater near you soon. Peep the trailer below:
