Eric Garner's Family Releases Song 'This Ends Today'
Erica Garner, daughter of, Eric Garner, the Staten Island man murdered by police last July, sings, "this ends today."
In her debut track produced by Eric Garner's brother, Steven Flagg, as the family continues their struggle for justice. "It just came from the heart," said Flagg to the New York Daily News about the single he is also featured on. "We want to get it out there on the radio, anywhere, so as many people as possible hear it."
The song begins with Eric Garner's heart wrenching cries, "I can't breathe, I can't breathe!" It is very emotional. Listeners feel the pain and sadness of the family as Flagg reminds with a rhyme, "Its sad how my brother Eric Garner was killed—The pain in my heart still refuses to heal." Erica who has been outspoken about her father's death from the beginning continues to question why, this time she raps, "what was the circumstances of his death?/ Why couldn't he take another breath?"
Throughout the song we hear, "justice for all, not justice for one." Ironically Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. in Chicago on July 6, 1965 said, "as we struggle to make justice a reality we do not struggle alone, but God struggles with us … So I can say more than ever before: We shall overcome,(someday)".
Fifty years later Erica Garner sings, "this ends today." Catch a listen of the song after the break.
