Gabrielle Union Clears the Air on Prenup to D. Wade
Gabrielle Union continues to make moves on the small and big screen after 16 years in the industry, and in a new interview with Yahoo! Style, she's letting it be known that marriage isn't stopping her major movements any time soon.
The Being Mary Jane actress opens up about her and Dwyane Wade's decision to sign a prenuptial agreement prior to walking down the aisle last summer, citing it necessary for her to "protect [her] stuff." Union also breaks down her rise to the top in a story most of us can relate to, and why she wants to be seen as an independent woman even if she is someone's wife.
"For women in Hollywood, when they’re coupling, everything is about the brand. Everything is about latching on to a rising star, so you can kick your heels up. That’s never been my story, ever. I make sure to let people know all of the hard work that’s gone into my career. I want people to know the work that it took to get through UCLA, that I had student loans and worked. I was eating Top Ramen and lived well below my means. Now that it’s time to get married to a man who happens to play basketball and has done well for himself, I want to make it clear that I have in no way hitched my wagon to his star. I have my own wagon and star."
Talk about it, Gabby! In a society where it seems celebrities are divorcing left and right and 20+ year marriages are a rarity, it's important for those that have literally "started from the bottom," to protect what they've earned. What are your thoughts on Gabrielle Union's revelation?
