

Lupita Nyong'o and David Oyelowo To Star in Disney's 'Queen of Katwe'
Hollywood’s most promising stars Lupita Nyong'o and David Oyelowo are rumored to be starring in Disney's Queen of Katwe.
Queen of Katwe is the true story of Phiona Mutesi—a young chess prodigy who overcomes adversity. The film will be based on a 2011 ESPN Article by Tim Crothers, as well as the book The Queen of Katwe: A Story of Life, Chess, and One Extraordinary Girl's Dream of Becoming a Grandmaster. The piece by Crothers tell the tale of Phiona Mutesi as a real life chess prodigy, who met Robert Katende (a war refugee who became a missionary) in 2005 while searching for food Ugandan .
Nyong’o was a favorite during last year’s awards season for her performance in “12 Years A Slave”, having taken home an Oscar, is rumored to play the mother of Phiona Mutesi. Oyelowo, who’s receiving critical acclaim based on his performance in “Selma”, is rumored to be pursuing the role of Robert Katende. Production is planning to begin filming in the spring.
This wouldn’t be the first time Lupita and David would appear in a film together, as they were both involved in “Americanah” (a love story of two Nigerian immigrants).
