Movie Review: 'Fifty Shades of Grey' Has Us all Wrapped Up in Mr. Grey's Sadistic Ropes of Pleasure
The color grey takes on a whole new meaning in the highly anticipated big screen adaption of British author E.L. James’ novel, Fifty Shades of Grey. Known as an erotic page-turner, the Hollywood adaption aims to please and gets pretty naughty indeed.
As the film opens audiences are first welcomed to Anastasia “Ana” Steele (played by Dakota Johnson) and Christian Grey (played by Jamie Dornan); two incredibly different people from two incredibly different worlds. While Ana is a virginal, soon-to-be college graduate who leads a fairly simple life, Grey is a 27-year-old wealthy business tycoon who leads a very complex and secret life that only those that are willing and submissive enough are privy to. As fate would have it, the two individuals are brought together when Ana interviews Grey. As his office door closes and Ms. Steele unknowingly steps foot into his mysterious world the sexual tension begins as the two lock eyes and instantly become enticed by one another. While Ana shyly bites her lip, intimidated by Christian’s dignified manner, he feels out her from head to toe crowning her as his latest infatuation.
The two embark on an affair that takes an early twist as Grey reveals that he is a “singular” man with particular needs. Specifically, he thrives off of pain and pleasure, pushing Ana to explore her sexuality like never before. That is until he prompts her with a nondisclosure agreement that puts a tight grip on their relationship. The lovers embark on a game of cat and mouse as Grey chases Ana, and she finds herself all wrapped up in his sadistic ropes of pleasure.
With a foolproof soundtrack that offers a sensual selection of songs from Beyonce to The Weeknd and more, we witness Christian Grey’s unquenched thirst for control in all aspects of life, especially the physical. Mr. Grey is sweet-natured but rough to the touch causing for a handful of explosive sex scenes that are bound to have you teetering on the edge of your seat.
Not to be confused with Romeo and Juliet’s star crossed lovers plot, Fifty Shades of Grey doesn’t skimp on the good, the bad, and the ugly of sex, love, and attraction. If you’re into lusty motion pictures then Fifty is the flick for you. Not even Kim Kardashian’s nude Paper Magazine cover holds a candle to the fervent and sweltering passion director Sam Taylor-Johnson seamlessly translates from the best sellers pages to the big screen. But just one word of caution: enter into Mr. Grey’s world at your own discretion, if you dare.
Fifty Shades of Grey hits big screens nationwide this Friday, February 13th. Check out the official trailer on the next page.
