For about six years, the Richard Pryor biopic has been underway. And while the roles have already been casted, a new video has surfaced of Marlon Wayans' audition tape for the biographic film.
In 2010, Wayans auditioned for the role of Richard Pryor under producer Chris Rock and director Bill Condon, but studios passed on both Rock and Wayans. Instead, Mike Epps will play as Pryor, while Oprah Winfrey will play the late comedian's grandmother, Kate Hudson will play Pryor's wife and widow and Lee Daniels will direct the film.
Shadow & Act reported that Daniels was also blown away by Wayans' audition as much as he was blown away by Epps' performance along with his producers, The Weinstein Company.
The Weinstein Company is aiming for a late 2015 Oscar film, but with the upcoming projects Daniels has in the works, it may make one skeptic about if Daniels can complete this biopic in time. He was able to do so with The Butler however, which was directed in less than a year.
Daniels is still keeping part of the script that Wayans read with minor edits, according to a recent podcast with Jennifer Pryor. Press play to see Marlon Wayan's version of Richard Pryor below. - Yvette Brown
