Black, Unarmed Man Killed By Georgia Police While Naked

Another day, another black man killed by law enforcement. Anthony Hill, 27, was fatally shot by Dekalb County police yesterday afternoon (Mar. 9) in Chamblee, GA. A sufferer of bipolar disorder, he was unarmed and naked at the time of the shooting, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Police responded to a disturbance at The Heights at Chamblee, an apartment complex. A complaint came in around 1 p.m. of a “suspicious person” knocking on residents’ doors and crawling around naked. Hill reportedly ran toward an officer, despite demands to stop. The officer shot Hill twice, killing him. The officer – a seven year veteran – has not been identified.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is looking into whether the officer should have used his Taser instead of firing his weapon. Hill, a musician and Air Force veteran, was vocal about his battle with bipolar disorder on social media. He was also a proponent of the #BlackLivesMatter movement:

Cedric Alexander, director of the county public safety department, confirmed that no weapon was found at the scene. “No weapon was found,” Alexander said. “The GBI is going to take the point on this investigation.”
