DEF Talk with Vince Staples: “People Find Excuses For Their Downfall”

On the latest segment of All Def Digital’s DEF Talk, Long Beach rapper and one-third of Cutthroat Boyz, Vince Staples, spills his thoughts on his career, fans and people believing in him.

“A lot of people saw what I could be or what I should be before I did. A lot of people believed in me doing something, so I might as well, you know, give it a shot and see how it turns out,” the Def Jam artist said.

Also during the interview, Staples discussed his thoughts on being on a major label.

“People find excuses for their downfall. If every single rapper and musician that we look up to that’s considered a legend has been on a major label, why is it considered a bad thing?”

Even with only a few short years in the game, he gave advice to upcoming artists by saying that music should come from the heart and everything else will follow.

“The worst thing an artist can do when trying to make it or get discovered is trying to make it or get discovered. You’re gonna blow it. Just make music, and if it works, it works, and if it don’t, it don’t.”

Back in October, Staples dropped his Hell Can Wait EP, which you can stream here.
