Jussie Smollett On Ellen 'There's Never Been A Closet That I've Been In'
Empire's Jussie Smollett has a heart-to-heart with Ellen DeGeneres and tells the talk show host he's never been in the closet, he just chooses to keep his personal life personal.
Jussie Smollett, star of Fox's breakout new series Empire sat with Ellen DeGeneres Monday (March 9) to thank her for all she's done for the LGBT community.
Smollett, who plays Jamal, also used the chance to speak about his sexuality. Smollett said it was very important for him to get across to fans and anyone wondering, there is no closet. The 31-year-old just chooses to keep his personal life private.
"There's never been a closet that I've been in. I don't own a closet I have a dresser. I don't have a closet, but I have a home and that is my responsibility to protect that home, so that is why I choose not to talk about my personal life. There is without a doubt no closet that I have ever been in."
Questions about Smollett's sexuality have surrounded the star, and the newly signed Columbia Records recording artist went on Ellen to clear the air.
"So let's not read into it in the wrong way when I say I don't talk about my personal life. I'm saying that, but it isn't in no way to hide or deny who God made me. My mama knows. My mama likes me a lot and yes, I take her to the 'Sound of Music' sing a long every year!"
