Remember Eazy-E’s Legacy With This Playlist

Twenty years ago today marks the passing of one of the most notorious figures in hip-hop and rap: Eazy-Z. Eric Lynn Wright, known as “The Godfather of Gangsta Rap”, was a prominent member of N.W.A. The Compton based in-your-face, unapologetically black and politically-oriented rap group created waves of influence from their year of inception in 1987 until 1991.

Each member brought a unique element to N**** With Attitude. Eazy-E brought a funky, heavy, and aggressive sound to the emergence of gangsta rap. His influences are cited to be Prince, Bootsy Collins, RUN DMC, and Sugarhill Gang. In his solo album Eazy Duz It, lyrical bullets alluding to the rough reality of Compton streets were being shot out of a 5’5” figure with a snapback and jerry-curls. Since his death in 1995, Eazy-E is heard to be seen cruising in his ’64 in the clouds.
