Univision Host Fired For Comparing Michelle Obama's Appearance To ‘Planet Of The Apes'
What you won't do is come for FLOTUS...
Sorry Kanye, but no one is concealing their racism and derogatory remarks in 2015. Rodner Figueroa, now the former host for Univision's El Gordo y La Flaca?, was fired Wednesday (Mar. 11) for comparing our First Lady to that of a cast member from Planet of the Apes.
The Emmy-award winning host made the remark while discussing Paolo Ballesteros's incredible cosmetic transformations with a side-by-side of Michelle Obama. While on air, Figueroa said, "Michelle Obama looks like she's part of the cast of 'Planet of the Apes.'" Fired following the show's episode, Univision edited that portion for the West Coast, and released a statement pertaining to the distasteful comment saying:
"Yesterday during our entertainment program El Gordo y La Flaca, Rodner Figueroa made comments regarding First Lady Michelle Obama that were completely reprehensible and in no way reflect Univision's values or views. As a result, Mr. Figueroa was immediately terminated."
Figueroa has since released a statement of his own, making mention of his own background, including his father who is Afro-Latino. He followed up with an apology to the Obama family and admitted that there's no excuse to make a statement "that could be interpreted as offensive or racist during these volatile times we're living in."
