Coachella 2015: Drake’s Flawless Finale Made Momma Proud

Live Reviews

Call Drake a momma’s boy, and he probably won’t argue with you. Even before his biggest concert of the year, Drizzy was on the phone with mommy dearest — but their conversation was far from children’s talk.

“She said, ‘Aubrey, now you know I love you but I need a favor. And I said ‘Anything for you, mom, anything in the world,'” Coachella’s Sunday night headliner told the crowd about a pre-show chat with his mother.

“I need you to go on that Coachella stage tonight, and I need you to kill that motherfucker,” Aubrey says were his mom’s exact words. He continued: “And I know she’s watching this, so I just want to say Sandra Gail Graham, tonight you’re gonna get your muthafuckin’ wish because I’m about to kill this motherfucka!”

Even at this stage in his career, it’s clear that the Grammy Award winner still lives by the motto “mother knows best.” Drake’s Coachella debut was a flawless victory from start to finish — even with an awkward Madonna cameo and that ended with a sloppy wet kiss – but you’ll be hearing about this all week long.

Announcing his immortal status from the jump, Drake properly started his set with the If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late intro, “Legend.” The addictive track stirred up a full on sing-a-long within a few notes. It was then banger after banger with the most crowd-friendly moments happening during “We Made It,” “Tuesday,” and Drizzy’s song-of-the-moment, “Know Yourself.” After tonight, we know the 6 God is fully capable of creating an oasis in the middle of a desert.

“I’m not asking to change your life tonight, I’m just asking to a part of it, is that okay with you?,” Drake asked the crowd. As one of the few rappers in the history of Coachella to close out the festival, the kid from the 6 gave himself another chapter for his pending memoir.
