Drake Won't Be Getting Much Government Funding For OVO Fest This Year
The Canadian government won't be financially backing OVO Fest.
The Canadian government has strict rules on whom they share their monies with, and Drake just didn’t meet the criteria. Billboard reported that Drake’s 2015 OVO Fest will not be funded by Celebrate Ontario.
This year's highly anticipated fest did not qualify because it didn't meet pre-determined criteria. No worries for Drake and Co., though. They still have a chance at the financial aid next year.
“We encourage OVO Fest’s organizers to reach out to the ministry and apply again next year,” said Blane Mchail, press secretary to Honorable Michael Coteau, the Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sport.
All hope is not lost however. Even though other companies backed the festival financially, The Ontario Music Fund alone donated $45,000. The event is reportedly sold out, so it’s still a win for Drizzy. OVO Fest takes place Aug. 2-3 at the Molson Canadian Amphitheatre in Toronto.
